Bound Feet Women
Tonghai, Yunnan Province
Kyra Doolan, University of Richmond

This dance troupe consisted of about 8 women, and it gets smaller every year due to the age of the women. They are what remains of the foot binding tradition that used to take place in China. They have grouped together to preserve a part of their culture. They danced and played music for us, then performed taiji, and at the end had us join in and dance with them.

Most Intriguing Story
Happy Together
John Zhao, Virginia Commonwealth University

I just walked out of a garden in Suzhou. The place was packed with tourists and I wanted to find a quiet place to sit. I went behind the garden and enjoyed a beverage. There was this couple that held each other's hands the entire time I was resting. Their smiles never faded. They just seemed to be enjoying life, the sunset and watching the world around them. This image makes me content.

Honorable Mention

Pilgrimage
David Sylvia, University of Richmond

Step by step, visitors to the Great Wall of China leave their imprint, literally wearing away the stairs on the Badaling section of the wall. The pilgrimage of these visitors brings honor to those ancestors that dedicated their lives to build this great world wonder.

Workers in Forbidden City
Joanna Sciarrino, Glen Head, NY

Touring through the Forbidden City, I came across these four workers in the courtyard and was instantly inspired by them. I found myself particularly drawn to their hats and simple clothing.
